Beijing has declared that it will finally be doing something about all the China quality English-translated signs which grace its fair streets, though only to prepare for the distant 2022 Olympics.
Since December 1st of last year, China welcomed an increase in English-translated signs and notices in order to appeal to foreigners – unfortunately these translations possess a distinct level of “China quality” that make them occasionally difficult to comprehend.
While the city launched a website to allow citizens to report improperly translated signs, there were apparently too many in existence and now the city is cracking down on them.
A few examples of the tragically mistranslated signs:
To be fair, the red sign that says “please vomiting here” has the exact same wording in Chinese (minus the bad grammar).
