Deus Ex is the latest videogame franchise to fall victim to a Hollywood movie adaptation, with Square Enix and CBS Films announcing it will be adapted into a film.
CBS Films says it will be based on or around the events of Human Revolution, and that it will actually involve Eidos in the production:
“As is clear from the wild success of the game, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal know how to exceed their audience’s expectations by engineering incredible worlds.
No one knows ‘Human Revolution’ like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the ‘Deus Ex’ name.”
Roy Lee, producer of such masterpieces as “Lego: The Piece of Resistance,” and Adrian Askarieh, producer of the almost equally esteemed “Kane and Lynch” movie, have been announced as the producers of what is sure to be an exciting tour de force which be widely appreciated by fans of the game whilst making it more accessible to a mainstream audience.
The production schedule has so far not been made public.
Square Enix is gushing forth enthusiasm in spite of the universally dire history of Hollywood’s videogame adapted movies:
“As the millions of fans who have played the ‘Deus Ex’ games for more than a decade will tell you, these games catapult you into a universe that is stimulating, engaging and relevant.
We’re firm believers in building strong partnerships, and so we’re thrilled to be working with CBS Films on bringing the unique ‘Deus Ex’ experience to the bigscreen.”
well considering that eidos themselves will be involved, its possible it might break the curse of mediocre VG adaptations.
what do you think?
Someone better alert the Waaaaaaaaaahmbulence, for f♥♥k sake people, it’s a fucking game. So what if they make it into a movie, it just makes you fuckers look like hipsters when you say s♥♥t like “I played it as a game before it was popular,” or “I find the game was better than the movie,” well tough s♥♥t, the game was made to get your money and entertain you for a few hours. If a studio plans on making a movie based on a game, a comic, a manga, an anime, then just deal with it and grow the f♥♥k up, it’s not like you can make any difference in how it’s made when you’re just 1 in a million.
Begone n♥♥♥♥r.
I don’t give a rat’s ass what the make a movie from, it’s just that the film adaptations of games are often massive, steaming piles of psyche scarring s♥♥t.
THAT’S why people get pissed.
Can’t be worse then the second Dead Space movie – I actually liked the first one.
A Deus Ex Movie wouldn’t be so bad, as long it is directed by the right person. Mahiro Maeda would be a fantastic choice as the director.
If Warren Spector is involved, I’ll watch it…
