Criminal Girls 2 Spiritual Successor Xicatrice Decidedly Lacking in Punishment

Nippon Ichi Software is developing Xicatrice, an RPG with simulation elements that seems to be a spiritual successor to their sexy punishment RPG series Criminal Girls, except lacking the iconic sexy aesthetic and punishment system that the second game censored in the West, and was removed entirely in Criminal Girls X.

Instead of the premise being about rehabilitating (and undressing) girls in criminal-themed attire, Xicatrice takes place in a world of super-ability users, with such people being drafted into an organization called the AUT, which fights against criminals using superpowers. But when the boys and girls lose their powers, they’re redrafted into a special school called RAUT instead.

The main connection with Criminal Girls comes from the game’s battle system and character growth elements. Players have to “educate” the party members to raise their stats, and like Criminal Girls, battles take place with the characters giving the player suggestions of what they want to do, of which players can only choose one per turn.

The theme of “rehabilitation” is still present, with each party member having personal baggage of their own related to super-abilities, and the teaser site hints that depending on player actions, they may even die in a bad ending.

Sadly, it seems that the “touching” aspect of the Criminal Girls series is being ditched, though this is likely why the game is ostensibly a new IP and only a spiritual successor in gameplay.

Xicatrice releases for Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4 on June 29th, 2023.
