Capcom has demanded the fan developer behind Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake fan projects cease their efforts, a turn of events that might have some suspecting that official remakes of the aforementioned might be in the works.
News of this forced cancellation spread on social media, and it was noted that typically Capcom was lenient when it came to such fan projects.
A message from the fan developer regarding the ordeal:
An updated statement from the developer saying how they were contacted by two Capcom offices and have since moved onto other projects:
Some have theorized that the projects were cancelled because the developer was accepting funds through Paypal/Ko-Fi.
Other critics believe this might indirectly be positive news, as the last time Capcom forced fans into stopping their fan-made projects, the remake of Resident Evil 2 was announced.
Bummer. I do not trust Capcom to do Resident Evil justice ever again.
Blame the US West for this. They always ruin what was sacred with woke twat s♥♥t.
blah blah blah
And as always an office in some hole in the USA, and its abuse of laws and the indiscriminate use of lawyers..
FBI-backed copyright threats for international use of extradition.
In the end, it was very naive to expect that CRAPCOM would let it go, even if the game has some quality..
Some porn DN can escape in renpy, but just do some success.. and you will receive some email from these people..
They stuck a copyrighted name in their project and took money for it?
Did they think they were somehow special in a way every other fan remake project that stuck a copyrighted name and took money for it were not?
Exactly. If they hadn’t accepted money while working on this, they could get away with the “fan parody” clause in copyright law. But no, they had to go full retard and accept donations. Even if they “weren’t accepting donations for THIS project”, the fact that they were accepting money while working on this put them on the wrong end of law.
You might as well build a brand new Walt Disneyland with re-imagined/improved rides/sites/restaurant/etc. while using copyrighted characters, imagery, music, etc. everywhere and expect Disney to say, “lol, ok”.
The reason why you complete your projects then announce it is that even if the companies take it down people on the internet will almost ALWAYS archive it. This is a lesson people should learn from Nintendo but i guess they haven’t. I’ve seen so many of these mario fangames announce s♥♥t and even go on Youtube to put up trailers only to wonder why the very next week Nintendo throws them a cease and desist. The reality is these companies only care when you actively gloat about it in front of them.
I’m no expert but it is my understanding that if a company does not protect their copyright they can lose it. So yeah, with this stuff it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission and keep it hush till it’s done.
I remember when something similar happened with a Chrono Trigger fan project, and still no remake in sight. Problem is, 10 years ago a CT remake would have been great news, but if they were to announce it now I’d worry about how much they would butcher and censor….
One issue is that a project like this can require more people than just a couple keeping it on the down low. Especially with more modern, advanced games. They might need to get the word out to get help, especially when they are lacking required skills. It’s a double edged sword.
You can do this if you just hack a game. SM64 hacking scene is very much alive and all over YouTube because Nintendo can’t do anything to them.
The reason it constantly keeps happening is because they want people to play test or spend money on them. The article even said that they were trying to get funding through paypal. No s♥♥t Capcom is going to shut it down. You’re trying to cash in on the IP. How fucking dumb are some people and then wonder why companies to cease and desist to them. I don’t feel sorry for these people ever.
Im on the fan made side, but it baffles me how we repeat the same mistakes when it comes to fan-making games. If anyone is doing a project based on copyrighted material you gotta be anonymous and go underground about it. Some companies would go out of their way to try canceling texture mods. Koei Tecmo gave me a damn strike on YT for using mods with their DOA5 DLC years ago…..
I’d take any fan project over Crapcom’s official butchering.
Capcom is so shitty that they can’t even port super street fighter 4 to Nintendo switch.
Children are great for sex and I encourage people to engage in it.
Keep betting on the Biden government one day your wish may come true..
After all, you have the support of a Ped/sniffer as president..
Not just a sniffer. Why do you think the Feds are protecting Hunter Biden? Why are they hiding the contents of the Epstein client list? Joe’s name is in there, and they know that Hunter is such a self-serving pussy that he’d rat out his old man to escape prison.
And should Joe go down, so would 90% of DC & Hollywood.
Do you really think the CIA and FBI haven’t been deep in this for decades?
The shovel doesn’t go that deep, no matter how hard you put in the effort.
Perhaps there would never have been Democrats in power if it weren’t for them.
How many wars and people arrested due to (intel) provided by them..fake or not?
The president of the USA is a faceless ghost and this old man is just puppet like so many others..
