Nintendo’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated movie was expected to make its way to theaters this December, but fans will have to wait a few more months as it’s been delayed to April 2023, and while the company didn’t provide a reason for the delay, some have assumed the highly successful Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie might have been at least part of the reason.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto tweeted from Nintendo of America’s account with a rather odd apology tweet explaining that the delay was decided after consulting with co-producer Chris Meledandri (who some commenters apparently thought was someone else):
As mentioned in the tweet, the new release date for the Mario movie is April 7th in North America and April 28th in Japan.
I’d be interested if Ron Jeremy reprised his role as Mario. Unfortunately, I can’t stand modern Hollywood “humor”. This is going to be your typical braindead, cookie cutter family movie that happens to feature Nintendo characters.

Something tells me Miyamoto wasn’t happy with the design choices of the characters. Willing to bet they looked like the studio’s own take on the SMB universe and not Nintendo’s.
