Bayonetta 3 Development “Progressing Smoothly”

In a recent interview with Famitsu, the developers behind Bayonetta 3 announced that the project is “progressing smoothly” ahead of its planned release.

In addition to confirming that the game’s development is going well (in spite of infrequent updates since its announcement three years ago), senior Platinum Games employees Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba have told Famitsu that when they first started work on the original Bayonetta game, they had no plans to make a PlayStation 3 version, perhaps explaining the famously bad port that it eventually received.

Kamiya and Inaba said that the company could not afford to think about multi-platform releases and had no idea which console’s fanbase would be most receptive to the game, so they chose the console that was easier to develop for.

The pair added that there was immense joy in the development studio the first time they tested having the lead character summon demons and remove her clothes – Inaba elaborated that it wasn’t an “obscene” joy, just that the developers were glad that their ideas all meshed together well.

In addition to reminiscing about old times, Kamiya and Inaba also told readers that the initial 2017 trailer for the third title in the franchise contains “hidden information”.

Bayonetta 3 is set for release on the Nintendo Switch on May 28th in Japan.
