The latest episode of Funimation’s “Inside the Episode” series for Boku no Hero Academia has once again seen to them trying to earn the pity of their fans as they describe the difficulties behind translating and localizing an anime, with the task of adding in completely new dialogue apparently being quite taxing.
The “behind the scenes” extra, along with a mirror link:
A reddit thread addressing this video attracted the attention of Funimation itself, providing a statement that will no doubt infuriate many considering the liberties they have been taking with dubs lately:
Hard? I imagine it’s pretty easy for them when they just make s♥♥t up,and insert their SJW bullshit propaganda into it.
Totally disgusting, they consider themselves professional and make this video to masturbate? How about not change what they don’t like in the anime?
For example, if the story contain yuri and you fucking hate yuri and you change the story in your work, like the Dragon Maid first episode, the dub changed Kobayashi’s line from “But I’m a woman” to “I’m not into women” – which turns a yuri trope into a flat rejection. “being true to source material” huh?
Also add in SJW meme is Professional? When Kobayashi encounters Kanna in the second episode, she tells Kanna “Don’t slut-shame me” after Kanna calls her a cuckold.
For all the money and work they invest into dubs they could build a hardware player that can run a video layer on top of another video. That way the mouth movements can be re-drawn to make it a heck of a lot easier to record new audio.
The amount of time you spend matching something that doesn’t need to be matched and could be drawn again in seconds is astonishing. Technology can solve all your woes. Then people can legit complain if you suck at your job, because then you’d have no excuse at all. You’d be doing work equal to that of the original voice actors.
In other words, stop hiding behind the idea that you’re doing more work; you don’t have to.
It’s even more baffling why they think they should rush a dub just to have it out at the same time as the original. Quality > quantity you numbnuts.
Whoever said MHA’s dub is really good must mute the show when Deku or All Might speaks.
I used to LOVE dubs. Preferred them actually…then anime saw a downturn in business. That downturn in business saw the slashing of budgets and dub creation in general. The big name talent in the industry was being replaced by low talent hacks. Pretty much most anything Funi is dubbing these days features garbage talent and or piss poor casting. Just the worst. It’s as if they are pulling these actors from strip clubs and pornos rather than reputable sources.
