The unique Ghost in the Shell FPS will be shutting down in Japan come November 29th (only one year after it launched), an event that can’t have proved too shocking as it was regarded by many as nothing more than a cash-grab utilizing the anime’s fast-fading good name.
Nexon’s Japanese branch gave the sad news via the game’s Japanese page, while no particular reason was specifically stated, some are assuming that the overall low favor that the Japanese have for mindless first person shooters (let alone ones that seem to be nothing more than poor Call of Duty clones) was the main cause – it has not been stated if the western version of the game will suffer the same fate.
An old PV, which unsurprisingly used several scenes from the anime to motivate watchers into playing:
Along with the poorly performing live action movie, it seems the Ghost in the Shell franchise can’t catch a break…
Only redeeming thing about this game is (some of) the original voice actors.
Got banned from this game because my antivirus scanned it.
Refused refund because:

Nexon can go choke on a bowl of dicks.
This game was just COD team deathmatch with GITS references, right?
Maybe if they did something unique, such as having interesting tactical missions like the source material, and allowing people to make your own character instead of having to play as one of the GITS characters.
That’s what you get for making only multiplayer games without a single player in it. It Serves them right.
Multiplayer-only games do just fine. Look at Overwatch, for one.
I would have to say the first problem is Nexon made it. Second problem is it targeted Japanese gamers who typically are not into the FPS genre at all. Third problem is using the long played out tactical FPS subgenre when the material clearly warrants something more Quake-like.
I think something more fast paced that was advertised better internationally would have done decently. Europeans and Russians in particular love a decent twitch shooter.
The only good and successful things to come out of GITS was the original animated movie and the original anime series, the rest has been one disaster after the other. All of the video games based on it suck, Arise suck, the live action movie flopped miserably despite being pretty good, also the original manga and sequel to the original animated movie were pretty bad… I think it’s all over for this franchise.
And the Solid State Society movie after 2nd gig. That was good as well.
Arise was better than people give it credit for.
Arise is a translation failure. It should be Alice.
