Anime fans tasked with setting out the conditions for making a hit anime have provided a disturbingly likely list of candidate elements any modern hit is probably going to have to include…
The most highly regarded conditions for becoming a hit anime:
1. Don’t r**e the original!
2. Make the art cute
3. Have a sweet OP
4. Get a cast of top seiyuu
5. Show some cool battle scenes
6. Include some unexpected twists
7. Have a sweet ED
8. Include ero in moderation
9. Use lots of moe elements
10. Fill it with lots of cute girls
Type A fans seem unlikely to be well served by this selection, but a quick comparison of the list to actual hits (notably K-ON! and Bakemonogatari, both top sellers) seems to suggest following its guidance is a sure recipe for a hit.
That’s Permanent indigents…?!?
I’m thinking that for most of the male fanbase, the last three would be the top three.

LOL. FBI/NSA throwing that lure out there.
Y’see that Artie? You’re on their radar, my limeypedo friend.
You’ve arrived, Artie the pretentious Limey p♥♥o Faggot.
I got season tickets to whatever happens next, heheh.
the f♥♥k happened to my original post? was it too spot on? well, here it is again, more or less:
1. have more diverse environments. 90% of anime seems to take place at a school, ancient Japan, future Japan, outer space, or some middle ages fantasy world. how ’bout going to other countries or other historical time periods? just this alone would greatly increase the originality factor.
2. if you’re gonna show fanservice, then fucking show fanservice! and I mean good fanservice. if not, then don’t bother! I can’t emphasize how irritating it is for current anime to go to great lengths to pretend to show some goods, only to go to even greater lengths to keep the viewer from getting a clear shot of anything. and then the few anime that does show fanservice just shows annoying close ups, dutch angled views, and grotesquely exaggerated physical features like quintuple D boobs or gigantic protruding vaginas.
3. create quality animation. seems like most studios, in stereotypical Japanese fashion, focus more on production quantity as opposed to quality. so you end up with lots of anime that looks a rush job, or with a very generic animation style. I admit I prefer moe, but if it’s high quality animation then that’s good too.
4. Don’t make another harem anime! this tends to force the creation of the same old rehashed (and obnoxious) characters and situations that we’ve seen 5765435 times already. so here’s a novel idea: have a cast with a fairly even male/female ratio. you’ll be surprised at the newfound plot and character possibilities. and yes, some of those could still involve multiple girls falling for the same guy.
5. don’t try to be everything to everyone. this again has more to do with the characters than most anything else, but it certainly applies to the overall anime. in other words, don’t try to have the same old “one of each” type of girl among the characters. and don’t try to force comedy, drama, action, or other stereotypical scene that really just ends up watering down the show. so have a focus and stick to it. not everyone will love your show… and that’s a good thing.
I swear, if I had millions of dollars to invest I would implement those ideas into an anime studio and bring about a new golden age of anime.
The f♥♥k “ED”?
