Schools in the UK are being told that mandating skirts for girls as part of a school uniform may be illegal, as it constitutes discrimination against female-to-male transsexuals.
The UK government’s Equality and Human Rights Commission published a report stating “requiring pupils to wear gender-specific clothes is potentially unlawful.”
Its concern over the plight of girls thinking they were boys, yet humiliated by being made to wear skirts, was particularly acute:
“Pupils born female with gender dysphoria experienced great discomfort being forced to wear stereotypical girls’ clothes — for example a skirt.”
The Commission hints darkly that schools refusing to abandon “discriminatory” uniforms may be subjected to “costly legal action” when the guidelines come into force.
The guidelines also extend rights formerly reserved for those diagnosed with “gender identity disorders” to all who might claim them, “regardless of whether or not they intend to undergo, are undergoing or have undergone gender reassignment.”
Previously such rights were the preserve of those who had acquired a medical diagnosis of some sort, although with children as young as 9 being given such dispensation these were evidently not hard to obtain.
The UK’s tiny minority of transsexuals, thought to number in the thousands, as elsewhere consists mostly of men or boys intent on becoming women; it is at any rate apparently not thought necessary to provide such children with female clothing in schools.
We had a strict law at my school that no girl was to ever wear trousers. If you weren’t in a skirt, you were sent to the head teacher’s office and if you still came in with trousers on they could give you slips [a certain number of slips led to suspension and the likes]. Was a huge case that every female student argued against but the staff weren’t letting it go. was freezing in the winter.
2013 and it’s still a huge problem as far as I’ve been told by my younger cousin (who even got sent home for wearing a jacket that wasn’t black). You must have a tie on and skirt, no choice whatsoever. If you didn’t, you could be suspended and it’s still going on in my school.
Why girls can wear pants and boy cannot wear skirt ? This is discrimination. And about kilt ? loool.
how can wearing a skirt be discrimination in any way? Being forced to wear nothing could be counted as harassment or discrimination, but not wearing a skirt, I mean boys could wear short trousers with half legs too, or those trousers with braces (like mario does) or Tights like Robin Hood or Jeans or Scottish Kilts, but are forced to wear Trousers.
Goddamn,it’s a regulation of the school that has to be accepted BEFORE entering the school, meaning if you accepted the regulations you can’t whine about it later on. And if it says girls have to wear skirts they have to,end of the discussion. If you don’t agree with it,don’t join the school,it’s easy, isn’t it?
They should just send their children abroad if they can’t take the regulations in the UK instead of pressing charges for being as stupid like a lump of bread!
Oh for crying out loud… just give them a choice between the uniforms and be done with it…
When I was in a UK school long ago there was an equal school uniform policy stateing that girls and boys can wear the uniform of their choice and the school acepted it, the policy was only used by the girls when winter came along they would change to pants and in summer they would change to skirts, not once did any boys choose to wear a skirt.
