Schools in the UK are being told that mandating skirts for girls as part of a school uniform may be illegal, as it constitutes discrimination against female-to-male transsexuals.

The UK government’s Equality and Human Rights Commission published a report stating “requiring pupils to wear gender-specific clothes is potentially unlawful.”

Its concern over the plight of girls thinking they were boys, yet humiliated by being made to wear skirts, was particularly acute:

“Pupils born female with gender dysphoria experienced great discomfort being forced to wear stereotypical girls’ clothes — for example a skirt.”

The Commission hints darkly that schools refusing to abandon “discriminatory” uniforms may be subjected to “costly legal action” when the guidelines come into force.

The guidelines also extend rights formerly reserved for those diagnosed with “gender identity disorders” to all who might claim them, “regardless of whether or not they intend to undergo, are undergoing or have undergone gender reassignment.”

Previously such rights were the preserve of those who had acquired a medical diagnosis of some sort, although with children as young as 9 being given such dispensation these were evidently not hard to obtain.

The UK’s tiny minority of transsexuals, thought to number in the thousands, as elsewhere consists mostly of men or boys intent on becoming women; it is at any rate apparently not thought necessary to provide such children with female clothing in schools.

    When I was in a UK school long ago there was an equal school uniform policy stateing that girls and boys can wear the uniform of their choice and the school acepted it, the policy was only used by the girls when winter came along they would change to pants and in summer they would change to skirts, not once did any boys choose to wear a skirt.

    I couldn't get anything out of this as being pure BS.
    You can be a tomboy and still wear a miniskirt with no problems.
    These entities really have no better way to waste their time, have they.

    Well, er, speaking as a Real Live Transsexual(tm), you don't have to be transgendered to be upset about this. I knew a lot of girls back in school who didn't like skirts--fortunately, my school didn't have uniforms, so they could pretty much wear jeans every day.

    While I won't get into the wider discussion of school uniforms in general, it seems to me that none of the underlying principles of a uniform system would be undermined with girls being allowed to wear, say, a nice pair of uniform dress slacks. It could be an easy option for the uniform, and that way the female students could take their pick, whichever was more comfortable to them personally.

    As to the whole trans argument, I think it's ill-thought-out at best. A hypothetical FTM student is going to have deeper problems then skirts in the school uniform. While it's nice they're trying to take trans students' feelings into account, it's going to take rather more than just taking away skirts. In my opinion, they are better off working with those students individually to help them find a comfort level, rather than dictating policy From Above, so to speak.

    the comments on this are cracking me up XD

    Seriously though the world is getting retarded. It's like turning into a Neurotic Babylon. ...

    "We, the world, love sex and advertise it everywhere! HOWEVER, sex pisses off everyone, some dont know what sex they are, and every man on the planet wants to molest children! Henceforth all sex it EVIL! And ILLEGAL!!! Unless they are 18, where in you can be payed to poop on their chests. Depending on the hemisphere you live in. Marriage is no longer the safe way to have sex. Marriage is the only way to NOT have sex without being considered gay. And let it be said that the only exception to these laws are if you work for the government, which makes it easier to build sex dungeons.

    And in closing: all females are CREEPY if they act like a girl after 12, all bras must be burnt, women must be hairy ONLY on their crotches because pits and legs are nasty but without the fuzzy poonani, we here in the government feel like touching children. Oh yeah - women can join the army as long as they have stress cards.

    EVERY MAN HERE ME! If your dick hangs low and wobbles to and fro - sue the fucking school thats making you wear a skirt!"

    ~~~ What the U.S. SHOULD have said about the opinions.
    Why don't they just tell all the kids "There's a regulation skirt, and some regulation pants--pick the one you like and stick with it."
    We had boys and girls uniforms when I was seven, and at that age nobody could even tell if you were wearing the wrong one. Why does it matter?
    If the school is managed by the government then they should do allow anyone wear whatever they want.
    However, if we're talking about privately owned schools, then hell no! And if you don't agree, take your delicious little trap out of there!
    "Skirt is for female" is a cultural impression. If men normally wear skirt (and pant is for women) since the ancient time, wearing pant should be counted as discrimination in this situation. :P
    The only reason a boy will feel ashamed wearing a skirt is because he will get laughed at. Society considers boys wearing skirts strange. If it was a common thing and we never had a separation of skirts are for women only then a boy could wear a skirt easily and they probably would wear them.
    If this transsexuals are girls, even if they think they are boys there is no reason for them to feel bad about wearing a skirt because no one is gonna consider it strange and make fun of them. So what is the problem?
    We had a strict law at my school that no girl was to ever wear trousers. If you weren't in a skirt, you were sent to the head teacher's office and if you still came in with trousers on they could give you slips [a certain number of slips led to suspension and the likes]. Was a huge case that every female student argued against but the staff weren't letting it go. was freezing in the winter.
    2013 and it's still a huge problem as far as I've been told by my younger cousin (who even got sent home for wearing a jacket that wasn't black). You must have a tie on and skirt, no choice whatsoever. If you didn't, you could be suspended and it's still going on in my school.
    how can wearing a skirt be discrimination in any way? Being forced to wear nothing could be counted as harassment or discrimination,but not wearing a skirt, I mean boys could wear short trousers with half legs too, or those trousers with braces (like mario does) or Tights like Robin Hood or Jeans or Scottish Kilts,but are forced to wear Trousers.
    Goddamn,it's a regulation of the school that has to be accepted BEFORE entering the school,meaning if you accepted the regulations you can't whine about it later on. And if it says girls have to wear skirts they have to,end of the discussion. If you don't agree with it,don't join the school,it's easy,isn't it?
    They should just send their children abroad if they can't take the regulations in the UK instead of pressing charges for being as stupid like a lump of bread!
    The British shouldn't complain. Here in Spain the (often useless) social security doesn't pay you the dentist, but they DO cover sex-change operations. How come? How can be the dentist -a basic service almost everyone has to use in their life- less important than a mere whim?
    Fucking political correctness
    Covering dentist work for all of us is orders of magnitude pricier than changing sex to a couple persons. It's not like they can do free dental care if they remove sex-change coverage, not even close. Don't make up excuses like that to be a bigot, if you don't like transgended people, say it so.
    And Social Security is not "often useless". You're a moron. Be glad you live in a free country with a solid welfare state. If you don't like it, you can go to Iran for example and enjoy the absence of "useless" social security and your so hated political correctness; don't worry, they'd never fund a sex-change operation... even homosexuality is a crime punished with death by hanging!
    It's not like they're asking ALL women to never wear skirts. They're merely asking for the ability to not have to.
    It's amazing how some people here who are probably lolicon, are coming in here and often responding in ways so transphobically(and homophobically).
    The others are clearly normalfag trolls who won't tolerant anything slightly not status quo or traditional(you know, except real traditions that no longer accept in societies and are actually interesting).
    It's about uniform dress code.
    If you classify yourself as a man wear pants. A woman wear a skirt. Either way adhere to uniform policy.
    If it makes you uncomfortable or you don't like it, find another school to attend that has loose dress code.
    You know nothing about Japan. Women have run the place since day 1. That meek "look down, take small steps and smile" act is precisely that.....an act. When Japanese couples get away from the public eye, the woman always rules and always has. Japan's men are afraid of women from the time they're young. Japanese women are simply the world's best marketers. Have a read of Japanese history and notice what happens every single time the male "leader" of the country gets an ambitious female beside him ....she runs the country (usually poorly) from the shadows.
    It's yet another case of political correctness gone bollocks. Everyone in a position of authority these days are all too scared of offending anyone that they succumb to such stupidity.
    It seems as though this is basically just the goverment making up some reason to change this fact because in actuality the problem is that girls just don't want to wear the skirts these days but if that's the uniform then they should, if a guy walked into school wearing a skirt and tried claiming gender dysphoria without medical consent he'd be told to leave the premises. Rreally is just one rule for one and another for everyone else these days
