Fanmade Vocaloid Kasane Teto Becomes An Official AI Synthesizer Voicebank

Kasane Teto, a character who was first created as an April Fool’s Day joke on 2ch back in 2008, is now finally becoming a full AI synthesized voicebank compatible with Synthesizer V on her 15th anniversary.

Titled ‘Synthesizer V Kasane Teto,’ the voicebank provides a brand new database of provider Mayo Oyamano’s voice, using AI to make the voice sound more humanlike. The software is set to release on April 27th in Japan.

Like other acknowledged fan characters like Yowane Haku and Akita Neru, Teto has her roots in Japan’s textboard culture. Back in 2008, the heyday of Hatsune Miku’s era, various members on 2ch came up with a hoax for a new Vocaloid announcement by Crypton. However, people later on created voice data for “Teto” that would be used for the free synthesizer software UTAU, which would be used to sing now-legendary songs like Ochame Kinou:

Kasane Teto became recognized by Crypton alongside Yowane Haku and Akita Neru and has even been added to the Project Diva line of games in the past (though only as a skin):

The official Kasane Teto channel has posted new songs using Teto’s new voicebank:

Finally, a look at Teto’s new design for her own official voicebank, which takes aspects of her old design while distinguishing it from being a parody of Hatsune Miku’s design:

Synthesizer V AI Kasane Teto releases April 27, 2023, in Japan.
