China Site Bilibili Banning Live-Streaming of Violent & Pornographic Games

Communist China’s crackdown on what people are allowed to enjoy or do continues as the gaming industry is this time targeted, as games that are violent or pornographic can no longer be streamed on Bilibili (the Chinese equivalent of YouTube).

More than 60 different games have been banned from being live-streamed on the site, such as Grand Theft Auto, The Witcher 3, Heart of Iron, World of Tanks, and Rainbow Six Siege, in an attempt to comply with “guidelines” from the Ministry of Culture and “other authorities”, who have deemed the evil games as inappropriate.

The Shanghai-located company was quoted saying “Bilibili will prohibit the live-streaming of games with bloody, violent and pornographic content”.

Regulations over gaming content and gaming in general have become more strict, with many comparing it to the crackdown on movies and TV shows, as the government continues to push against gaming addiction.

Such censorship and regulations are said to be making it more difficult for overseas developers to shill their titles for vast profits in China.

China’s temporary halt on accepting new video game licenses is said to be extending into 2022, serving as the longest in the country since 2018, where they had a stoppage lasting nine months.

Back in August, Beijing also restricted the maximum game time for those under 18 to between 8pm and 9pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays to try and prevent gaming addiction.
