SummerGameFest 2021 has revealed the first gameplay trailer of FromSoftware’s long-awaited Elden Ring along with a release date set for next year.
The premise and description of the game via publisher Bandai Namco’s press release along with the gameplay trailer for the game in English and Japanese:
The Golden Order has been broken.
Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.
In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.
Marika’s offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.
And become the Elden Lord.
Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware Inc. and produced by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., is a fantasy action-RPG and FromSoftware’s largest game to date, set within a world full of mystery and peril.
- A New Fantasy World – Journey through the Lands Between, a new fantasy world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the influential Dark Souls video game series, and George R. R. Martin, author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Unravel the mysteries of the Elden Ring’s power. Encounter adversaries with profound backgrounds, characters with their own unique motivations for helping or hindering your progress, and fearsome creatures.
- World Exploration in the Lands Between – Elden Ring features vast fantastical landscapes and shadowy, complex dungeons that are connected seamlessly. Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players, and fully immerse yourself in the grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiraling mountains, foreboding castles and other sites of grandeur on a scale never seen before in a FromSoftware title.
- Genre-Defining Gameplay – Create your character in FromSoftware’s refined action-RPG and define your playstyle by experimenting with a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities, and skills found throughout the world. Charge into battle, pick off enemies one-by-one using stealth, or even call upon allies for aid. Many options are at your disposal as you decide how to approach exploration and combat.
A free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version will be available for players who purchase Elden Ring on PlayStation 4, and Smart Delivery will be supported for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Elden Ring will officially be released for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC on January 21st, 2022.
What the hell is wrong with the commenters here? of all places I thought people would like Souls games here, if it was TLOU remastered trailer news being shared I’d understand the hate, but Souls?
They’re good games. But this is the 6th or 7th game that looks similar with similar world and monster design and gameplay. Not even counting similar games like Nioh and Sekiro. There’s just a resistance build-up to the same type of sensation.
I really don’t understand that argument, especially the smug “its just another souls game” comments, we can say that to most franchises, most turn based games never change their formula, most hentai VNs never change their formula, most racing games hasn’t changed for years, shooters like COD and BF too.
Especially in Elden Ring’s case they implement new gameplay like open world and mounted combat, is that not enough? what the hell do you want them to do? implement eroge sex gameplay? even changing the gameplay significantly people would still complain like in new Assassin’s Creed games.
Even the design if you are not blind it’s significantly different, it’s in a whole new setting, but yes of course the mood is the same, because you know what? the genre is realistic dark fantasy, designs like Final Fantasy or Genshin Impact would not fit.
This is conjecture on my part, but I don’t think it’s only the aforementioned tolerance to said formula.
People might just be getting tired of people (either tryhards, Fromfags, or both) treating these From games like they’re perfect exemplars of game development, and expecting everyone to do the same. They may be enjoyable to some, not so to others–but they’re certainly not perfect. Take Sekiro for example. Sekiro wasn’t just a game that had flaws by design–the much-vaunted difficulty comes from intentionally constraining gameplay quality (e.g., Sekiro striking a pose for a considerable number of frames before beginning an attack, while enemies simply attack), among other things–it had egregious flaws that could not have been by design, at least under normal circumstances (the camera shenanigans are a good example). The aforementioned tryhards et al. treat these flaws as part of the design, and bragging rights–and react relatively strongly to those who criticize them, as if those critics (reasonable ones, not the “journalists” who don’t even play games) mean to deprive them of their opportunity to brag to no one in particular (or so they’d have you believe).
Perhaps they know that with Elden Ring comes the next round of the above senselessness.
People in here are salty about everything lol i just come down here to search for the dumbest comment.
no one is hating on the game, just we want something else we are going back to a medieval game once again. TLOU is trash and shouldn’t even be talked about its irrelevant. People have high hopes for from software (only or one of the few good jp devs) thats all and this doesn’t look any different than well DS3 really. All we can do is wait hell maybe its going to be a surprise but I highly doubt it, might be good but nothing new”.
honestly its just another souls game
Looks pretty lame.
the reveal just happened to coincide with the “ring of fire” eclipse. don’t think i didn’t notice that, miyazaki.
I quite like the creature designs, but I’m not a fan of Souls games.
