Tokyo subway users are now able to ride in Pokemon-themed trains, thanks to a Nintendo marketing campaign.
Pokemon Pikavee Special Trains have entered service in the Tokyo subway, allowing commuters to ride in trains replete with Pokemon art. The trains are part of a promotional campaign for the upcoming Nintendo Switch games Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, although a wide range of Pokemon are being represented in the carriages, including such favourites as Magikarp, Snorlax and Jigglypuff.
Those who are lucky (or unlucky) enough to find themselves on a Pokemon Pikavee Special Train will find themselves surrounded by Pokemon art, which will be visible on the walls, doors, ceilings, floors and even hand straps.
Sadly, the trains will only be running until the end of August, and only on the Ginza subway line and the Marunouchi Line. The schedules for the Pokemon-themed carriages have not yet been made public, perhaps anticipating that some otaku will ride every train possible in the hope that they will eventually find themselves in a Pikavee Special Train.
Now it missing the Pokemon theme song playing in 8bit format.
