The 2nd season of industrial age zombie anime Koutetsujou no Kabaneri has finally been announced, providing the already over-saturated zombie genre with yet more material and bound to sadly be overshadowed by the upcoming 2nd season of Shingeki no Kyojin.
A short PV going in-depth about the future of the franchise:
A drama CD is apparently also in production and will take place after the end of the first season; the 2nd season of Koutetsujou no Kabaneri will send more zombie hordes to the afterlife sometime in 2018.
Kabaneri is one of those anime that surprises me. Unlike the other anime that draws girls who look 16 and the publisher goes, “She’s 18! I swear!”, they introduce a character who looks 18 and says, “She’s 12! I swear!”.
2018? Seriously? I guess it’s way way way back on the backlog…
Firts epis be cool, but the rest turn into a crap.
“providing the already over-saturated zombie genre with yet more material”
yeah, totally over-saturated in anime, since you can already count all animes in this genre on two hands (one if you only count good ones)… we really need more slice of life, harem, comedy and ecchi animes, since the market clearly hasn’t enough of them already.
Hey companies creating content for anime as a medium….Continue Railgun, continue Spice and Wolf, how about Gargantia as a second season versus a cliffhanger movie.
Hey Wit; how about revisiting the series that blew the hell up THREE years ago; you know Attack on Titan, your own enterprise? Then not making a fandom wait the length of Half Life 3 release (which will more than likely be delayed AGAIN)?
How about investing it in many of these versus something people rarely want?
They have enough source material for the norm with regular series that were quite literally mass hits. Yet they do a 1 season formula; as someone who has been around since the late 80’s I can honestly say I’m sick of these companies doing ‘one hit wonders.’ And then saying ‘Oh yea go buy the source material to get the rest’. I know it’s not going to get any better, and I know it takes a lot of money; and that the people involved half the time are paid like crap; but my god at least give it some damn closure.
Or put some effort into a series that people damn well want.
Kabaneri was a decent series; but that money could have went to either doing something well; maybe even helping the industry, versus something for a quick buck.
