Chinese made irons and kettles have reportedly been caught hacking into wireless networks to disseminate spam and viruses.
According to Russian media reports, electric kettles and irons discretely boasting their own wireless transmitters have been discovered breaking into poorly secured networks within a “200m radius” in order to spread viruses and spam.
Unsurprisingly, more sophisticated equipment like mobile phones and dashcams have also apparently been identified.
The devices appear to be part of regular commercial shipments rather than any
, and their discovery does not come at a good time when fears over backdoors inserted into network equipment made by army-affiliated giants like Huawei already threaten sales of non-clandestine IT equipment in many territories.

never trust the russian press
The casualties of outsourcing.
Might want to provide some government incentives to move electronics production to India/Southeast Asia/maybe even Latin America. Not wise to trust vital infrastructure to a rival.
Another example of why humans can’t have nice things.
You can be sure that whenever we discover new tech, assholes are going to be all over it.
Does this mean that China has processor chips that don’t crash under high temperatures with no fans, heat sinks, or cooling of any sort?
Does this also mean that viral chips can be found in the sex toys they make as well?
