The frosty reception enjoyed by Nintendo’s newly unveiled 2DS hand-held looks to have already frozen over completely, with confirmation that it has only one screen under its casing and somehow still weighs more than the 3DS doing little for its reputation as anything but “joke hardware.”
Nintendo gave a unique explanation of the device’s design:
“The appearance of separate screens is merely simulated by the way the case masks out the extraneous portions.
This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it.”
This has naturally prompted many to ask just why they did not just make it into a full tablet anyway, as its non-folding design so obviously invites.
Nintendo’s own official model comparison also reveals the unflattering truth that the console manages to be heavier than the 3DS despite having shed functionality ranging from power saving to stereo speakers:
Fortunately the loss of 3D seems to have been greeted as a feature by most…
Damn, sankaku is such a troll against nintendo. I remember when the DSI XL was about to be released, they said “Nintendo DSI XL: anounced disaster” but it was far from it, it was a really good system.
Stop seeing the negative side of things, the console will be cheaper and more durable, stop bitching like nerds.
You’re SO gonna eat your words, Artefact… this thing is going to be a massive success, they did away with the 3D viewing hazard for kids, it’s cheaper… it’ll kick ass. Nintendo just has to make sure to offer on the eShop the same popular and stupid s♥♥t that’s available on the App Store and Google Play (like Angry Birds and Candy Crush) at the exact same price points, and that’s it.
Also you’re wrong, the 2DS has a dedicated button for entering sleep mode, and power-saving mode is activated through the console’s screen brightness settings.
But, will it blend?
How much more inexpensive is it? I wouldn’t mind grabbing one. I still think the XL is my fave :S
I think Nintendo is running out of ideas and are now grasping at straws.
Back to the drawing-board, Nintendo.
95% chance that there is only 1 person here who should go back to the drawing board, but fails to do so.
and he has nothing to do with nintendo but his mama likes nintendo games… so sad…
