US reviewers have been raving over the recent American release of Disgaea 4, with some going so far as to award it 100%, lavishing praise on its highly refined SRPG gameplay whilst maintaining diplomatic reserve about other elements…
Reviewers seem to have generously overlooked the decidedly hackneyed plot and still awful (if improved) graphics in favour of the highly refined strategic RPG gameplay the series is a byword for – an appropriate evaluation, given the expectations of fans:
Idiotic review is idiotic–as are some of the people commenting. The Disgaea series brings you complex and addictive SRPGs beyond all others. Disgaea 4 is clearly no exception. The main story, which has been sufficiently lengthy throughout all games, can even be satisfying enough. And if you want to go hardcore, there is so much more to do.. It’s scary, lol. Clearly, this review is bs and I highly doubt the person played any of the previous titles long enough to realize Disgaea 4 DID bring a lot of new features to the table. I’m quite enjoying the storyline, thanks, but again, ignorant review.
My favorite complaint from non-fan, “gamer” critics is when it comes to graphics. That gets old, and is a very flawed argument. Not only does Disgaea 4 have nice, polished 2D sprites/graphics, but that’s JUST what you need for these kinds of games. THIS IS A TACTICAL RPG, dumbasses. You NEVER make it completely 3D models. Remember the good-ol-days when you’d play the rather epic Fire Emblem titles on GBA? Yeah? Well, now the Fire Emblem series is a piece of crap ever since the Gamecube and Wii games… With fully 3D models, it was not only atrocious gameplay, but it was also awkward. It DID NOT work. Tactical RPGs should always stick to HD 2D sprites/models and primarily top-down perspective. Isometric graphics are a must in this genre. On a side note, you don’t play chess with your face on the board, examining the pieces full 3 dimensional depth, do you? Even if “good graphics” was of concern, I would think that’s more a bonus to a game, not a necessary trait to determine a game’s epicocity.
But really, that’s the issue with “gamers” these days (quotes to denote sarcasm and discredit them being real gamers). They’re so bent on supremely superior 3D graphics that it becomes their only determinant for purchasing games. What they get, more often than not, is crap. s♥♥t games with shitty gameplay and shitty plots. They’re drawn to pretty, shiny things like four year olds… That’s today’s generation of “gamers”. Mainstream isn’t necessarily bad, but in many cases, because the majority of customers are dolts, mainstream games are s♥♥t. (Refer to Halo, Call of Duty…any FPS.) It’s good NIS doesn’t listen to non-fans and keeps it’s 2 (2.5?) D graphics. Had they chose to change that, majority of their passionate fanbase would turn away from it and stop buying..And NIS can’t afford to lose those fans. I really doubt people would stop talking s♥♥t and enjoy Disgaea games even if that was changed. It needs to remain for the fans and for the company itself to survive. Disgaea IS a quality game series and the greatest strategy RPG series ever, no doubt, and that’s that.
YOU FOOLS!!
Each of you, take a Sardine in hand!
I WANT TO BE A PRINNY… IF I CANT I WANT THE HAT…
Too bad. Some generic characters didn’t get some remodeling though.
Still keeping the old looks for nostalgia.
