A scene distinctly implying that two of the K-ON! girls actually have boyfriends and may thus actually be mere soiled high-schoolers instead of the idealised moeblobs fans so adore has proven a major bombshell to their more devoted fans.
The offending scene from the manga:
The translated dialogue:
Ritsu: Ehehe, a little bit!
Mugi: Pehaps you have a boyfriend or something!?
Mio: There’s no way Ritsu could get a boyfriend…
Ritsu: …
Mio: Eh!? What!? What’s up with that reaction!?
Ritsu: Well, it’s time to study.
Yui: … She left.
Mugi: Maybe she really did get a boyfriend!
Mio: Ritsu has a boyfriend? Impossible… Hahaha…
The second offending scene from the manga:
The translated text:
Azusa: Hmm… Ritsu-senpai has a boyfriend does she?
Mio: As if! Ritsu could never get a boyfriend!
Mio: Stop looking at me, Mugi!
Yui: But Ricchan looks as if she could be quite popular amongst the boys?
Mugi: She’s cheerful and fun!
Mio: N-no no! Dating is for when both parties are fully adult, right…
Azusa: Mio-senpai is surprisingly old-fashioned…
That night…
Mio: Honestly – what is Ritsu thinking…
Mio: Getting a boyfriend before our exams!
Mio: Well, it’s still not confirmed…
Mio: Anyhow, why didn’t she tell me! That’s the kind of thing you talk to friends about isn’t it!
Phone: You went on a date with your boyfriend today… you k-kissed, and stuff? Kyaaa!
Yui: Mio-chan, can I please go to sleep now?
Naturally many fans are alarmed by these developments, in a manner reminiscent of the creepiness over Nagi-sama’s imputed hymenal deficiency.
Now all that remains is for Azusa’s boyfriend to make an appearance, and for Mio to get one – doubtless the reaction amongst otaku fans might well be entertaining to behold.
A lot of you are misunderstanding something, there’s one major problem in Japan it is Otaku, that’s just the way it is. But when you’re going to sell a product, in which you have full control you’d better prepare for the fire. These girls are shown off as high school, idols or are beautiful. I’ve actually never seen the show but I know in Japan that they are SERIOUS about their idols. So when you pull something like this, it will anger them. It’s understandable though, no? That’s what the author was giving them, idols to gawk at all day. Personally I do find it daunting that they’re this angry about it, but if I devoted myself the way they do to their anime, living it, believing it and all that, then I’d be angry too. For instance however, in real life, the real idol’s most otaku know that they have lives and eventually get married etc. But in anime/writing, that’s not a problem. They view K-On as timeless cute anime idols, they worship them I’ve seen it, freaks me out. Being betrayed by your writer sucks, trust me, I religiously follow Hunger games to the third and was mad.
well bullshit that ritsu is for mio!!!!!!!!! yui is for azunyan! f♥♥k those assholes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:::::::::((((((((( f♥♥k that s♥♥t!!! mio x ritsu!!! yui x azunyan!!!!!!
i thought having a boy/girlfriend is normal in highschool……only in the eyes of creepy people are all idols not in a relationship, they just want to fantasized for themselves -3-
…umm…wasn’t it revealed later in that same issue that Ritsu was just meeting someone in secret? Someone FEMALE? And for nothing ‘depraved’, as well?
HATERS GONNA HATE….
Love the commentary. Carry on, SC denizens.
