Microsoft has announced it will be closing its original Xbox Live service worldwide in April.
Xbox Live services and online gaming for the first Xbox console, including for any original games playable on the Xbox 360, will be terminated on April 15th, 2010.
Some might marvel that they even kept it going this long.
No actual reason is given, but it is most probably due simply to the tiny number of players remaining for this system.
Wow, this happened on my birthday based on the article, RIP original Xbox…
That’s why you play on PC.
What does this mean for DLC? Does this mean that games with any kind of downloadable content will have that content lost forever?
Mysterious Voice: “Just hack the game. That stuff was already on the disk in the first place, and no LIVE means no subscriptions to end.”
…I swear, I can count percentages of Sankaku when it comes to debates like this.
65%: People who look foward to seing Microsoft fail for whatever reason and never acknowledge when it does right.
25%: People who are willing to give Microsoft a chance, but are silenced by the all-encompassing 65%.
10%: People who primarily play PC games and wish death upon the others.
And all three of these groups hate each other and can never go along.
Mysterious Voice: “That’s because 25% of the population is retarded.”
…are you looking for a fight.
Mysterious Voice: “I’m a troll. I’m always looking for a fight.”
Don’t see what the big issue is. It’s an old console, and they plan on ending support for the online service. That being said, there are still ways to play some of these games online without live even if it does take some work on the side of the player.
Furthermore, not trying to display any xbox/ms “fanboism” but I decided to go the route of the Xbox -> 360 Elite, as opposed to going with the Sony systems (having ample experience with the other systems and just not liking it as much) and I can say that I’m quite pleased with my choice.
As it has been neither by xbox, or my 360 have broken down once or shown any errors, except for the time that I bought a used from a game X-change where the disc came in pretty bad condition (my fault for not checking the disc before I left) and needless to say I just went back to the store and exchange it free of charge for a working disc!
As it is, it really just comes down to what people prefer, so just stick to what you prefer and stop bitching because *gasp* others have a differing opinion!
Wow, do you morons REALLY not read these articles or are you just incapable of comprehending what they say? They are ending the service support for the original xbox, not the 360.
…R.I.P MechAsssault…..you were a good friend….
