Microsoft Ends Xbox Live Service

I had nothing at all that I wanted on the original Xbox console, but I could see why some people might be sad. They're probably trying to flush out the remaining people with the original Xbox console, just for the hell of it. It's not like that's going to force them to get a 360, anyway.

on a different note project natal the 360 looks very interesting, while the copy of the wii-mote by sony seems rather cheap.

Don't see what the big issue is. It's an old console, and they plan on ending support for the online service. That being said, there are still ways to play some of these games online without live even if it does take some work on the side of the player.

Furthermore, not trying to display any xbox/ms "fanboism" but I decided to go the route of the Xbox -> 360 Elite, as opposed to going with the Sony systems (having ample experience with the other systems and just not liking it as much) and I can say that I'm quite pleased with my choice.

As it has been neither by xbox, or my 360 have broken down once or shown any errors, except for the time that I bought a used from a game X-change where the disc came in pretty bad condition (my fault for not checking the disc before I left) and needless to say I just went back to the store and exchange it free of charge for a working disc!

As it is, it really just comes down to what people prefer, so just stick to what you prefer and stop bitching because *gasp* others have a differing opinion!

amazing how retarded some of you are. the original xbox only allows 100 friends among other things, and it's easier just to cut the services off than to program updates for an obsolete system

Um Artefact you might wanna retranslate that article. The actual quote on the Japanese page says

"Xbox Live services and online gaming for the first Xbox console, including for any original xbox games playable on the Xbox 360, will be terminated on April 15th, 2010."

They are closing the online service for old xbox games, including the ones that are backwards compatible. Xbox360 games will be unharmed by this.

Actually, MS is pulling the Xbox Live plug for the first Xbox *entirely*. I.e. ALL games from the original Xbox (even those that can be played in the 360) will be disabled from online play.

Uhhh, they're just cutting original Xbox service for all regions. Xbox360 live is still staying up everywhere, Japan included :/

This is just for original Xbox games, and it goes into effect internationally.

They arent ending ALL XBL content, just for games on the first classic Xbox. Xbox360 content will still exist. They are ending Live service on classic Xbox content for America also

This isn't why they're ending it. They're ending it for every country due to them not wanting to spend the money to keep it running, and they're touting updates to Live for 360 games as the trade-off.
