The release of Sony’s PS3 Slim has seen Japanese sales of the PS3 surge, with 310,000 units sold in September, easily beating the Wii and even surpassing sales of the DSi.
The PS3 sold 309,939 units in September, compared to 261,363 for the DSi and 61,691 for the Wii (although a $50 price cut for the Wii is due in October). It seems nobody even bothers reporting the sales of the Xbox 360.
Of course, the real question is how well sales of the PS3 will endure once the carefully cultivated shininess of the new unit wears off; considering that the release of Final Fantasy XIII is due in December, Sony may be in luck in this department…
