The upcoming Netflix 3D CG adaptation of Saint Seiya, known as “Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac“, revealed its first teaser trailer. Fans were quick to notice a major change to Andromeda Shun’s gender along with some other questionable decisions.

One of the series’ producers and the writer responsible for Shun’s gender change, Eugene Son has gone on a long Twitter rant explaining his reasoning behind the genderswap:
Responses to Son were generally respectful but also quick to point out why the major change he implemented for Shun’s character would not go over well with most people familiar with the original anime and manga:

The series will launch globally when it premieres in summer of 2019.
I’m glad I’m not a big fan of any of the series that have been netflixed. Kinda feel bad about the fans, but people should’ve realized by now that netflix is 100% unable to make quality adaptations.

Why the need to be progressive or not, just deal with your work and leave the minorities to their own business.
A straight update would have been boring. We’ve seen s♥♥t already and morals overall have changed and new things are ready to be challenged. s♥♥t like dealing with women in your group of high testosterone for example. How do you deal with that? You can’t throw them out, how do you deal? That’s one scenario I suspect will come up. Its not a big deal, and you’re too old to be deal with such low brow things regardless of a straight adaptation or this update.
I understand that you’re a worthless retarded f♥♥k without a shred of talent or creativity, because if you had talent or intellect you’d see the obvious answer to s♥♥t already seen and overall morals changing would be to simply make something new and good with your diversity. Apparently that is too difficult so you have to take something already made and butcher it with your bullshit. That would be how you deal with this, but that’s too difficult for you and your ilk.
I take it you never watched the original Saint Seiya. If you had, you’d know why this alteration is such a colossal f♥♥k-up of epic proportions that shits all over the entire series. Yes, Netflix fucked-up that much this day with this one “minor” change alone.
I can hardly wait for Netflix to get the rights to make yet another remake of Sailor Moon, where Usagi is re-named “Yukio” and it’s revealed in the final battle against King Beryl that Sailor Moon is actually a feminine gay boy cross-dressing as a girl and all those intentional upskirt shots of his crotch wasn’t of a puffy vulva. Endymion is totally cool with it because, while he’s 100% straight, he’s even more progressive and woke. And the rest of the senshi are cool with it because they’re all (insert random LGTBQ++etc. mental disorder here), too.

If they’d made Shun GAY the controversy would be 20x worse…chances are I’m not going to watch this anyway. But I don’t care about Saint Seiya all that much to be really pissed about a character receiving a gender bender…and I do understand the Starbuck reference…I did watch the original BSG…I’ll read later the comments to see if it worked as well as this guy wanted…though I really doubt it will. fanboys will always be fanboys…
And Shiryu is 10x the character that SOB Seiya is…..lololololololol
