Fans of cute girls and military hardware alike have been delighted by the recent display of base mascot Akane Kisarazu and her ita-Cobra attack helicopter as part of Camp Kisarazu’s 40th air festival.
The character appearing on the aircraft – and cosplayed by the pretty girl sitting atop it – is Akane Kisarazu, the mascot of JGSDF Camp Kisarazu, a JGSDF base in Chiba prefecture which houses the 1st Helicopter Brigade and hosts its own matsuri, in this case hosted by 4ATH, the 4th anti-tank helicopter squadron:
The movie:
The vital statistics of Akane Kisarazu:
Name: Akane Kisarazu (木更津茜)
Age: 23
Rank: 1st Lieutenant
Skill: Combat pilot
Height: 161cm
BWH: STATE SECRET
Hobbies: Cooking & outdoor activities
The helicopter she appears on is a AH-1S Cobra (the unit having not yet received their AH-64D Apaches), a modernised variant of the USA’s venerable AH-1 Cobra produced under license in Japan until 2000.
Whether the cosplayer in question is actually a serving member of the air force is unfortunately not clear – though judging by the number of Japanese vowing to enlist after seeing her, her power as a recruitment aid is as great either way.
The base festival of course had plenty of serious military posturing on display as well (mili-ota field promotions to those who can identify all aircraft featured):

Trivialization of a killing machine I’m almost as offended as I was by lacus clyne’s pink Zaku.
Now you can die in moe style…
Now we know where all the military budget of Japan’s army goes…
GIRLS AND GUNSHIP…
If that minigun or the rocket tubes are firing at you it doesn’t matter how it looks, and it’ll probably be the last thing you see.
