The Azumanga cast was charming. It didn't need to sell off of flanderization these ronery otaku take up like LSD.
With all due respect to K-on! fans, I can't stand it anymore. I've watched it, I've read it, I had Fuwa Fuwa Time on my cellphone, I fapped to Ritsu's lovely forehead and all but I can't take it anymore.
The story feels too superficial and while the characters are made to appeal based in pre-determined characteristics and behavior (a.k.a. Moe), when you have a better look at them, they're too shallow and poor developed - compare them to Azumanga or even better, Yotsuba&! and you'll see what I'm saying, I don't feel touched with K-on! as I feel with those other two shows and many others.
I'm glad that Sheryl and Ranka beated Yui in January and in February's top 100, they're better crafted characters and have an actual character development. The Sheryl that appeared in the first episode is not the Sheryl in the last episode, they've grown as persons thanks to the experiences they had during the story - the same can't be said about K-on!'s cast that gravitates toward maintaing the status quo and having no character evolution at all.
If that's the way the industry is taking in the next years, sadly I'll have to be glad one or two titles with actual content and good storytelling, but I won't take K-On! and moe anymore.

I loved K-ON and it's characters when it came out. But I was over it in about 5 weeks. It was never something I expected to like long-term. I don't think many of these otaku realize that when they get home from work, they would only find an unkept house, an unprepared meal that they'd have to prepare themselves, and a sleeping wife too lazy to welcome them back and please their manly desires. I don't really see it this way. Otaku and weeaboo, to me, are two very similar terms separated only by one's native culture and a slight difference in meaning.
We all know what an otaku is: one in whose hobbies they are so thoroughly interested that it almost approaches obsession. Train otaku, anime otaku, idol otaku/wota (whatever they're called now), cosplay otaku, and so on.
The usage of the term "otaku" in Western culture, however, pertains almost exclusively to anime and manga, especially when it is self-applied by extreme fans of these art forms. This is where I feel the term "weeaboo" has a useful application.
"Weeaboo" differs in that it carries many similarities between otaku (an almost obsessive and compulsive desire to pursue one's chosen hobby) but also has a slight additional connotation: the desire for one to be and act Japanese. There's a copy & paste troll on 4chan who perfectly exemplifies the idea of a weeaboo: a white guy who dresses in traditional Japanese garb, adheres to bushido, and wants to attend a Japanese high school at the age of 27, all while spouting questionably-applied Japanese vocabulary.
The "two types of otaku" link I provided explains the duality of identifying with that subculture, and contends that the "Type A" otaku (one who only interests themselves on a basic level) isn't really an otaku at all, but simply a fan with more discriminating taste. And so, making use of the two-type otaku model, I would like to suggest that there are also two types of weeaboo. I would consider myself more of a "Type A," one who finds many aspects of Japanese culture interesting, especially pop culture, but I can also find some really shitty aspects of that culture and don't really aspire to be or become Japanese in any way. The problem is that such a wife, who couldn't get a job even if her life depended on it, is quite a handfull. First you get up and make breakfast and send the kids to school, then you go to work, then you spend your lunchbreak getting some quick housework done (if you are lucky enough to life near your work-place) then you get back to work with an empty stomach. After work you still find her lazing around on the couch watching TV and getting fat (yes even her metabolism will change to normal levels after her first kid) so you start doing the rest of the housework, help your kids with your homework and get some work done you brought home from your work-place. Suddenly you realize that it's 0530 and that you have to start making breakfast before your kids get up. A few years later Yui will be like Peggy's mother, you haven't slept more than 10 minutes at a stretch in years, lost a few jobs and ended up as a shoe salesman at "Gary's Shoes" .

As the days passed, most of the people that I see here are Mio fans... But on the articles that come around here, we see that Yui is really popular with the Otaku...
