While the official end of support for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U has officially come to pass, the community-run Pretendo Network that is helping keep Wii U games online has announced an even easier way to keep multiplayer – via a DNS change that works without hacking.
Revealed via blog post immediately after the maintenance and shuttering of Nintendo’s official online service, any standard unhacked Wii U can have its DNS changed to keep online multiplayer functionality via Pretendo Network, thanks to an SSL library exploit that hasn’t been patched out.
Unfortunately, some games (mainly 3rd party) are unsupported, and it only works for the Wii U, and the 3DS is unsupported. However, it provides some comfort that the option is available for people who want it.
With this and de_fuse the wii u is finally 100% of nintendo’s incompetence.
The homebrew community is making the console shine again.
