Despite recent efforts to appease Western credit card overlords, DLsite, the adult books and games seller, has announced that it has temporarily suspended support for Mastercard, Visa, and American Express.
The following notice was posted concerning the suspension of the Western credit cards:
Thank you very much for your patronage of our services.
We regret to inform you that, as of 18:00 (JST) April 3rd, 2024, use of Visa and Mastercard will be temporarily suspended.
While this suspension is in place, please use an alternative payment method.
We ask for your understanding of the circumstances and apologize for any inconvenience this may be.
DLsite issued an addendum on the Japanese notice adding the suspension of American Express cards as well:
4/4 Addendum:
From 18:30 on Thursday, April 4th, 2024, the use of American Express will also be temporarily suspended.
The suspension of all three major Western credit cards, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, leaves the Japan-based JCB cards as the only credit cards that are currently usable on DLsite.
Awesome. This should be the response the moment the banks try to control your business. Now they should restore their regular tags.
Definitely! They now need to collaborate with some Japanese bank to issue DLSite-themed JCB cards, and place a link to apply for one directly in the payment screen!
I hope that “temporarily” doesn’t just mean that they are fucking up their own store in the meanwhile just to please those companies and get them back on board.
Majority of dl site revenue still comes from Japan and China atleast more than the west. Worst case scenario dl will abandon western market or cards just like fanza or dmm. Pixiv got fucked because their majority revenue comes from overseas.
