Okinawa Music Composer Arrested After Sending Rival Marijuana

An Okinawa music composer was arrested after smuggling marijuana from the United States and sending it to a rival composer in a failed sabotage attempt.

On March 25, the Aichi Prefectural Police arrested three men on suspicion of violating the Cannabis Control Act for allegedly importing marijuana from the United States in an attempt to disrupt the activities of a rival music composer.

“I thought that if I sent the marijuana, he would become the subject of an investigation and would have to stop his activities,” admitted Nao Yamashita, a 26-year-old music composer from Okinawa Prefecture.

According to the police report, Yamashita and the two accomplices sent marijuana between July and August 2023 to an address after finding the rival composer’s address on a listing that had the same name three times.

The three suspects are facing charges of conspiring to import 0.99 grams of marijuana from the United States through Haneda Airport after being discovered by customs officials on July 17, 2023.

The Nagoya Customs filed charges with the Nagoya District Public Prosecutors Office against the three on suspicion of violating customs laws.
