A man was arrested for allegedly installing a camera in the bathroom of an after-school daycare facility, claiming that he was only trying to see how the toilets were getting dirty.
27-year-old Kento Omura of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, an employee of a social welfare corporation in Nada Ward, was arrested on suspicion of violating the Child Pornography Prohibition Act.
In March of 2023, Omura installed a camera on the ceiling of a unisex toilet of the after-school childcare facility, where he recorded four kids aged between 8 and 10 and a 27-year-old female employee using the toilet.
In November 2023, a parent of a child attending the after-school daycare consulted the police, saying, “My child may have been victim of indecent behavior as a schoolchild.”
During the investigation, the suspect Omura’s smartphone was found containing multiple images of kids.
“There is no doubt that I installed a hidden camera and recorded, but I didn’t do it to satisfy my sexual desires, I just wanted to see how dirty the toilet was,” claimed the suspect Omura. The police plan to further investigate whether there were any other obscene acts that took place at the daycare.
