Japanese dating app company Tapple released a new AI-focused game called Koisuru AI, bringing Japan’s birth rate closer to zero with a dating communication app where players interact with a voiced AI.

According to the company, the game’s AI specializes in memory, being able to piece together the player’s thoughts, habits, and likes through their conversations. Using this data, the AI character (literally named Ai) forms the text and uses text-to-speech (with a voice bank provided by seiyuu Rikako Aida) to speak to the player.

Similar to games like Love Plus, players can also influence Ai’s personality towards them, with “naive,” “tsundere,” “lonely,” and “princess” being some of the possibilities.

According to Tapple, the app is meant to “simulate the process of building an intimate relationship” in order to support and improve the chances of those using their dating app. However, in doing so, they might have signed their app’s own death warrant.
