Dating App Catfish Arrested After Breaking Man's Car Window

The Metropolitan Police Department arrested a 37-year-old woman on suspicion of damaging property after she allegedly threw a bottle and broke the car window of a man she met on a dating app who accused her of catfishing.

According to the police report, the suspect, Kanako Ito, an unemployed woman from Shinjuku, Tokyo, was suspected of throwing a bottle containing a drink at a car driven by a man in Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City, at around 8:30 p.m. on December 24, damaging the rear window.

Ito partially denied the charges, saying, “There’s no doubt that I broke the car window, but I threw the bottle at the ground.”

The suspect, Ito, met the man through a dating app and argued in the man’s car because she looked different from the photo on the app. After getting out of the vehicle, Ito threw a bottle at the car that drove away and left the scene.
