97-Year-Old Man Crashes Car 'I Wasn't Driving a Car!'

Old people continue to wreak havoc on the roads in Japan, with the latest being a 97-year-old who crashed into a building and then claimed to the police that he “wasn’t driving a car.”

On November 8 at around 2:00 p.m., there was an emergency call about a car crashing into another car in Shimotsubayashi Minamidaihannya, Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto.

According to the police report, there was an accident in which a car collided with a pickup truck, and when the police officer arrived at the scene and told the driver of the car to pull over to the side, he then accelerated and crashed into a building.

“I heard a voice saying, ‘Stop!’, then I heard a huge thud and then a bang that I’ve never heard before,” said a local. “When I went to check, I saw that a car had crashed. The driver was an elderly man, and he looked surprised.”

When speaking to the police, the old man was incoherent, saying, “I wasn’t driving a car.”
