Mangaka Buichi Terasawa, known for his manga works Space Cobra and Goku Midnight Eye, among others, died from a heart attack at the age of 68 on September 8th, 2023.
News of his passing first broke out from his fellow mangaka Masanori Morita, which was soon followed up with the official announcement from Terasawa Production. According to representative Manabu Furuse, Terasawa (above) was blindsided by the heart attack despite surviving through three brain tumor surgeries. Terasawa’s funeral will be held with only family present.
Terasawa made his professional mangaka debut with Sigma 45 in 1976 before striking gold with the Space Cobra oneshot that was developed into a long-running manga series, with the now-final arc ‘Over the Rainbow’ running from 2005-2006.
The mangaka’s body of work is below:
- Sigma 45
- Space Cobra
- Black Knight Bat
- Karasu Tengu Kabuto
- Takeru
- Shinsengumi Gundragon
Gone too soon. Rest in Peace.
Well, there’s two more series I’m going to have to binge read, time to get started.
Rest in power, Terasawa-sensei!
Thank you for “Space Adventure Cobra”! One of most favourite sci-fi Anime ever!!
As always, the best of humanity dies very quickly and the worst of humanity never dies, almost as if it had eternal life. It’s always a difficult life to live.
Unfortunate.
Now I want another Cobra anime.
