Gacha Game Addicted TV Asahi Worker Caught Selling Company Property

Gacha Game Addicted TV Asahi Worker Caught Selling Company Property

A mid-level TV Asahi employee was forced to resign after getting caught taking company property without permission and selling it for money to fuel his gacha game addiction.

The information comes from a Weekly Bunshun interview with facts acknowledged by TV Asahi. The employee in question has paid total compensation for the damage and has already left the company. He was previously a part of the anime and game division and the sports department.

Earlier this year, multiple departments reported that someone from the company had stolen company equipment, including computers, iPads, and digital cameras. After investigation, it emerged that the now-former employee was the culprit and was reselling the items online for money.

The former employee made about 15 million yen a year, so it was baffling as to why he would need to take company property, but according to coworkers, he had gotten into anime and video games recently and had spent quite a sum of money on smartphone game transactions, so he was using the money from the stolen goods to pay for it.

In Japan, theft can be punished with imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to 500,000 yen. As a result, the former employee was ordered to resign in early March.
