Konami Worker Charged With Attempted Murder After Beating Boss With Fire Extinguisher

An employee of the major video game company Konami Digital Entertainment has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly beating a former superior using a fire extinguisher.

The 41-year-old Yuki Yamazaki is accused of trying to kill his former boss (48 years old) with a fire extinguisher at around 11:00 a.m. on April 11 at Konami’s Ginza office. He grabbed a nearby fire extinguisher, assaulted the victim from behind while working, and beat him until other coworkers subdued him.

Yamazaki confessed to the charges, saying, “I was being power-harassed, so I beat him with the intention of killing in order to live.” The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to leave the hospital after seven days of treatment.

According to the police, Yamazaki worked in the same department as his former boss until the summer of 2020 but was transferred to another department due to human relations issues. Yamazaki was dismissed on April 11 following the incident and arrest.
