There was a time when going to a pachinko parlor was practically a rite of passage to adulthood in Japan, just like buying cigarettes or alcohol, but according to a recent survey, young adults seem to no longer care for any of it.
The survey asked men and women aged 18-19 in Japan if they have any interest or experience with pachinko or pachislot:
- Never been, not interested – 73%
- Never been, but interested – 7%
- Been with acquaintances, but never on my own – 7%
- Have gone alone in the past – 8%
- I go every day on my own – 5%
An overwhelming 73% answered “Never been, not interested” about pachinko & pachislot. About 7% said, “Never been, but interested,” and another 7% selected, “Been with acquaintances, but never on my own.” While 8% answered that they “Have gone alone in the past,” only 5% answered, “I go every day on my own.”
The survey also showed that men are 2.3 times more likely to go to a pachinko parlor alone than women. While the change in times has undoubtedly affected the diminishing interest in pachinko & pachislot, the Japanese youth seem too busy spending their money on gacha games and eating at restaurants to take notice.
I guess that those are now replaced by terrible mobile games, which is where the youth can get their gambling fix.
I never quite understood the appeal of these machines, either.
Not much difference than Chuck E Cheese here in US for kids.. play games to get tickets to win prizes. At least you actually win a prize unlike s♥♥t Gacha whose game will die in a few years and everything you bought or gambled on is gone.
Kids now a days are just plain and utterly stupid.. let’s waste my money on a mobile game that I won’t have forever. You save enough tickets or that and you can purchase something with them that can last for a long time.
this is more on the alternative to that of a casino slot machine the “western” got,it’s been the hits since the yakuzas made them extra notorious back in the late 70s, 80s and 90s…and back then, these machines feed on baskets full of small metallic choking hazards, and they still do today.
If you as an adult don’t know how to properly handle small metal balls and are swallowing them you have a SEVERE MENTAL problem!
these dried-up geezers have been in there the entire time,so makes sense trying to eat one of those metal balls wouldn’t be a surprising thing.
They interest in pachinko in particular may be done, but these drones are still equally interested in equally shitty money siphoning garbage. So, what’s the difference?
its cause they dont get what actually made pachinko interesting to begin with…
a giant purely mechanical machine dropping balls and having spinning wheels and lights is interesting, even if the actual gambling part of it is meh.
…. a digital machine that shows you images of something while a slot machine rolls is even less interesting, and at most makes you wonder what’s going on with its source material.
and like other people have said, its much more fun and interesting to play a game that has gambling mechanics (and win nothing) than to gamble with a machine that has gameplay mechanics.
Just replaced pachinko with mobile gacha games.
