Tencent Goes for Victory With 20% Stake in Nikke & Stellar Blade Developer

Tencent has acquired a 20% stake in Korean developer SHIFT UP, known for the recently-released smartphone game Goddess of Victory: Nikke, and the upcoming Stellar Blade, in its latest move to get its finger in as many pies as possible.

According to Korean media, Tencent has been looking to acquire shares of SHIFT UP for a while now, but this was not realized due to being blocked by founding members of the company. However, now that they have acquired shares, Tencent now holds the 2nd largest amount of shares, after founder Kim Hyung-tae.

Currently, Tencent publishes the global version of Nikke, and the game recently got into controversy over censored designs. Meanwhile, Stellar Blade is already being published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, but it remains to be seen if Tencent’s newfound stake in the company will affect the upcoming PS5 title.
