In a move that will make Sony look even worse than they currently do, it was recently announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment that the PlayStation 5’s price will be increasing in several countries, with “global inflation” and “challenging economic conditions” being blamed for this matter.
A brief news post was made on the official PlayStation blog, which also listed the new prices and countries affected:
The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing. We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), as well as Canada. There will be no price increase in the United States.
The new RRPs below are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.*

PS5 Digital Edition – €449.99– UK

PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – CAD $649.99
PS5 Digital Edition – CAD $519.99While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come.
Thank you for your continued support.
Considering the PS5 has been available since November 2020, many usually expect the prices of consoles to decrease over time, though, the current political corruption sweeping the globe has been leading to high amounts of inflation.
I would not buy GayStation even for half of the price.
Solution to the price hike: DON’T BUY THE FUCKING SYSTEM.
The price of GPU’s is dropping, so maybe it’s time to get into PC gaming if you’re not already. A 3070 is already better than a PS5 and the 40 series is around the corner. You may even be able to find a used 3080ti for a great price.
Of course, this is assuming there are any new “AAA” games you want. If you enjoy looking at ugly masculine chicks in 4K, love predatory business tactics (gacha and loot boxes), and love political propaganda shoved in your face, then I highly recommend the latest gaming hardware.
PC parts are still ludicrously expensive. I’d say still go for a mid-range PC but if you can’t go for the Xbone Series X or if still can’t, go for the Series S.
Not really.
Most PC parts are actually below or close to MSRP, with only Graphic Cards being ridiculously overpriced.
Try buying something apart from a Graphic Card and the newest Intel CPU and you will notice that.
A Steam Deck is the easiest Way to get into PC Gaming pricewise,
It has the appearance and portability of the Switch but its still a fully fledged PC which means you can download Emulators and Mods.
Best part is that EVERYONE will be able to get one because the orders are done through a RESERVATION system unlike trying to buy a PS5
>Shill Deck
Nope. I just pass.
549? I usually see it for 700-800 over here. And clearly its not worth that price, nowhere near 1/4th of it with all their woke japan hating censorshit.
A couple months ago a distant relative bought it for fucking $900.
It’s already pointless to get at the current price.
Agreed, no “exclusives” nor anything remotely interesting.
The only PS5’s I’ve been able to locate in the US are ones bundled with Horizon: Forbidden Interest for $550. So the US is also seeing this price-hike – they’re just hiding it behind a “free” bundled game.
The cost to run the console in the UK doesn’t make it worth buying in October. Its jumping to 60p per kWh. Meaning a 200w machine would cost you 60p($.90?) to run for five hours. Works out expensive for a decent gaming session.
Our country is retarded as we got rid of our capacity to hold gas and sold the gas we produce to Europe only to buy it back at a much higher price later!
Hey here in Chinada we did the same thing with our Hydro plant and no one was punished for it. The the dipshit bitch lost her seat in parliament. Bitch robbed us right in front of our faces and actually thought she could run again after that stunt.
no like, it was pretty pointless to get it when it was cheaper as well
I wouldn’t take it even if it was free.
