Mentally unstable schoolgirl series Gakkou Gurashi! will be receiving a continuation of sorts in the form of Gakkou Gurashi! Otayori sometime next month, which will pick up where the original manga ended and delve into what happened afterwards.
Manga Time Kirara’s official Twitter account delivered the news and a visual of Miki alongside what seems to be an older version of herself:
The premise of this sequel (and whether or not it will be a series or a one-off) was not disclosed, though theorists concluded Miki to be the focus of it considering her presence on the visual.
2012 was when Gakkou Gurashi! launched in Manga Time Kirara Forward, followed by its anime airing in 2015, which garnered notoriety for its twist of a debut episode – the manga ended last November.
Gakkou Gurashi! is a compromise between a moeblob and zombie horror as multiple schoolgirls struggle to survive a zombie apocalypse that has swept their city.
Gakkou Gurashi! Otayori is scheduled to serialize in Manga Time Kirara Forward starting June 24th.
I’ve seen the anime but I haven’t read the manga.
Too bad the anime wasn’t faithful to the manga, otherwise we would have got further seasons. There’s huge, HUGE differences.
No, it wouldn’t have gotten further seasons. It was a good show and a good manga but it didn’t have the kind of popularity or broad appeal it takes to get a second cour these days.
I don’t know that we would have. I felt like the manga dragged quite a bit after they left the school. To the point where I kinda doubt anyone would have made another season out of it.
Fair point, I remember the anime sales being “meh” but modest. You could argue like with many shows which stray far from the material that fans just couldn’t justify supporting. If it were like for like with the manga things would have been different.
But with there being a live action Gakkou Gurashi! movie out there(Released 2019 in Japan) it seemed like interest was there in the franchise. But the anime being what it is may have made it difficult to produce a Season 2 as it stood.
The movie also had a short tv series on Amazon Japan called “Gakkō XXX-Another School Girl!” aka “がっこう××× ～もうひとつのがっこうぐらし！～”
The manga also had a nice healthy boost from the anime while it aired also.

It better be good because they really dragged the ending of the prequel out with Jack squat happening.
