Red dead 2 also takes 100GB, however the difference is that that space here is wasted on pointless cutscenes and the gameplay will be a small part of the game and probably s♥♥t.

Uncompressed audio & textures take up a hell of a lot of space. If they’re adding 4k support that too would take up space.

no one uses uncompressed data. the game is this large because they added a shitload of cutscenes and dialogs.
Actually uncompressed audio & video is commonplace on Blu Ray, especially 4k, thus the massive file sizes on Blu Ray discs.
If you’re one of those people who cares about great audio quality uncompressed is like heaven. But it just means massively bloated file sizes.
Lossless audio compression has existed for decades. It’s one thing to use uncompressed PCM on a Blu-ray movie(since your options are very limited), but there’s no excuse for having it in a game.
Don’t forget full audio voice acting for at least 4 languages (JP, Eng, Fre, Ger).

And honestly, I don’t see how they are going to stretch Midgar into a 30 hour section otherwise when it was 7 hours tops in the original, even if they do pad it with more bosses, maps, minigames, or whatever.
They are making the boss battles extra long and grindy to pad it out time wise. Fights that originally took maybe 10 mins at most will now take 45mins minimum, and this will be their way of stretching 4 hours worth of content into 30 hours. Also there will be be fetch quests like “go kill rats” which i’m sure will be like 80 of the 100 GB install. Man this game is going to be a masterpiece!! Can’t wait to kill rats for 6 hours straight

Dragon Quest XI is my favorite DQ in history and also my favorite JRPG of this entire generation.
Square are far from perfect but they still pump out some gems here and there. And I hope FFVIIR is the next one.
