Riot Accused of Censoring “Hong Kong” During Worlds 2019

Accusations of Riot preventing casters from saying “Hong Kong” during the League of Legends World Championship have emerged, with there being numerous instances of the casters oddly correcting themselves after stating “Hong Kong” when referring to competitive team Hong Kong Attitude.

Those watching the League of Legends World Championship noticed that many of the casters were correcting themselves when referring to competitive team Hong Kong Attitude, instead opting to abbreviate their name as “HKA”, leading some to believe that Riot might have demanded that they not mention Hong Kong at the behest of their Tencent overlords:

Casters however have already mentioned the full name of the team several times during the event, making things even more odd:

Riot employee Riot Cactopus addressed the matter, clarifying that they refer to the team Hong Kong Attitude by both their full name and as the HKA abbreviation all the time – he also stated that they are not telling people to not say “Hong Kong” and would prefer, rather confusingly, the team were called by its full name:

Considering Riot is owned by Tencent, some may not be accepting of this explanation.
