It has been revealed that a schoolgirl idol who committed suicide earlier this year was earning barely $300 a month, despite working 12 hours a day.
16-year-old singer Honoka Oomoto, a member of obscure agricultural idol group Enoha Girls, killed herself earlier this year, although the reasons for her suicide have only recently been made public. The girl’s family have revealed that she was forced to work 12 hours a day for 20 days out of the month, despite only being paid ¥35,000.
A brief video of the late idol can be seen below:
The parents have also revealed that she wished to leave the company because she could not reconcile her harsh work schedule with her school studies, but she was told that breaking her contract would result in a ¥100,000,000 fine. Oomoto killed herself the day afterwards.
Oomoto’s parents are now suing the deceased girl’s agency as a result of their daughter’s death.
that’s messed up. Company needs to be bankrupt , and managers have to face prosecution. This slavery grade crime enterprise.
To most companies/corporations, employees are expenses eating their dollars. This is why difficulty level for job landing is so high, because companies/corporations are no less than bad guys, they want to keep as many dollars in their own pockets instead of paying proper salary to employees. If the companies/corporations tell you “we will call you”, they are indirectly telling you fk off.
Companies need employees to earn money. But they only need employees that actually can earn them money. Obviously they optimize to keep as much money to themselves, so employees that earn them money have to negotiate what is an acceptable salary to them to do just that. Also, nobody is forced to work for companies. It’s just a thing NPCs do without giving it much thought. There are other options to earn money. Working for a company just is pretty much as hassle-free as it gets for most people.
“But they only need employees that actually can earn them money”
Found manglement member! FYI – janitor doesn’t make money for your company, but can you imagine s♥♥t flowing out of clogged toilet?
If position isn’t necessary for the company, it simply doesn’t exist; otherwise there’s probably reason for it.
Hundreds of years of theorizing about inequality, how vast majority of workers do not own the means of production or capital etc but thank god mr Chen came over to let us know that people in capitalism are not forced to work for companies.
Thanks (for nothing)
>theorizing about inequality
Yeah, there are people theorizing about a flat earth too.
There’s no such thing as “the means of production”, an economy is a complicated machine that needs everybody in their best positions. People are not equal at birth, and they do not become equal at adulthood either.
if its so “hassle-free”, then you wont mind unions with your “hassle-free” work, right? Oh, and getting rid of all yakuza in the media industry.
you’re right for the most part. but the girl above can’t do that because she was bound by a contract. maybe she didn’t have any idea if she had to works 12 hours only to earn $300.
It’s mostly here say by the mother, the president and company basically just said “Uh, there’s so much exaggeration that we’ll be glad to see them in court…”
wow now that is truly fucked
Article says the company’s president threatened her with the penalty. What a piece of s♥♥t.
Still, I want to say she should’ve known that contracts can’t have such ridiculously huge penalties. Or not signed up for such a contract to begin with.
Young girls aren’t lawyers. The agency’s top saying he’ll slap her with a huge fine is enough to scare the s♥♥t out of her, legality be damned. I just hope he didn’t use that position to extract some extra “work” before she ended it.
Of course the company president got her to suck him off before becoming the gang-bang target for the rest of management before she killed herself. This is Japan!
I want to believe that isn’t true, but I know better.
more so her contract likely was looked over by a lawyer.. a agency one who assured her and her parents it was good would be my guess.
you know they did
She was only 16y did you read every fine print in a contract when you where that young? Even more so when it was something that could be considered to be every teenager’s dream to become famous.
My parents did. Not sure how it works in Japan, but here you can’t work anyway without your parent’s approval if you are underage. I mean, you could, but then your parents could void everything if they wanted to.
Well… I did, but I’m not some dumb idol.
Even if, you have rights. If a contract is against fundamental worker laws it is worthless. Slavery is a crime. Her age could have been interesting too in that case. With 16 you aren’t an adult. I think she had good chances to come out of that contract unharmed. Maybe even with a couple of some thousands extra yen.
I’d like to tie a rope around the president’s neck and tie the other end to my car and go for a drive.
They really need to crack down on the corruption in the industry and the company president needs to go to prison.
I don’t believe minors can sign contracts so which stupid ass fucking parent signed her to work that hard? Seems like it is her guardian’s fault for her death and everything that happened to her.
Plus, and let’s be honest here, a 16 year old girl knows $300 is s♥♥t pay for one month of idol work. She wouldn’t kill herself just over that. I suspect she was being forced to do some other illegal activities behind the scenes as is always the case in this type of work.
Minors not being able to legally enter into a binding contract is a provision of law in Western countries, but not necessarily a universal one. It’s entirely possibly this was a legal contract in Japan due to the nature of the work (even in the US, certain industries can have some exceptions to certain employment or contract laws), or perhaps the age at which minors can legally enter into a contract is lower in Japan than it is in the US or other western countries.
It’s also entirely possible that the contract was made with her parents, and that in Japan it is legal for parents to be held to contractual obligations for work or services that their children render.
Since I am not a Japanese lawyer, I am only speculating as to why she felt compelled to suicide rather than just telling the company “lol I’m a minor you can’t do s♥♥t”.
In the US anyone older than 13 can enter a binding contract. Not sure how it works in Japan, but she was 16 already.
In japan, Husband who is between 15 and 18 years old can enter a binding contract however submit census register certificate to the company.
Also 12 fucking hour days and she is just a teenager likely still in school.
Uhhhh… I dunno where are you from, but in European countries, people are pretty much adults at 16 yo, that have rights almost the same as those of a 18 yo.
This isn’t really about her being a “minor”. Tons of the Japanese people in their 20, 30+ end up in her position.
Fucked up TBH. People should be less trusting and think more.
Pretty much adults, but they can’t marry without their parents approval, they can’t drink alcohol (except maybe beer), they are not allowed to drive a car and to work they need their parents approval. Also, no adult movies for them.
shut your mouth and work your ass off, trash. kys if you have a problem with that.
– Welcome to Japan.
