Even Sony are now contemplating whether a “PlayStation Classic” (essentially a re-release of the PS1 that would play old titles) would be worth the investment, a concept they are likely only now considering due to the emergence of both Nintendo and SNK‘s endeavors.
According to an interview, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO John Kodera claimed the following:
“The original PlayStation that was released in 1994 was a worldwide hit. There have been discussions (within the company) about what kind of ways to make a classic console release happen. While there is nothing we can talk about at the moment, we are constantly digging up old assets and I think there are various ways of doing it (a classic console).”
It is clear that Sony definitely has something in the pipeline, as such a feat would no doubt be easy to achieve and would probably generate them quite a bit of money in the process…
My original Playstation still works, though.
Mine too, it is also moded so it can run security copies of my games. Actually I only have 3-4 original games. I discarded all the rest years ago because it was a mountain of cd.
I miss the days when s♥♥t works forever if you take care of them.
My ps/ps2/psp all still work perfectly after sooooo many years.
Meanwhile the other consoles relied on revisions and cheap pieces of crap that broke constantly and needed to be re-re-re-re-re-released.
Sony did not do the planned obsolescence s♥♥t until the PS3 rolled around with it’s “10 year” plan.
>Planned for the Ps3 to last 10 years.
>Revised it several times.
>Made it cheaper every time.
>Made it harder to user service ie clean the dust out of the parts that caused severe overheating.
>Didn’t make the PS4 backwards compatible.
>An entire library of digital games are lost to suckers who believed the PS4 would support PS3 games.
Meanwhile…
My 2002 PS2 still fucking works, I replaced the reader after it fell off the dresser but other than that it’s still fucking functional.
It was impossible to make the PS4 bacwards compatible because of the different systems they used. When it comes ti the PSOne and PS2 games they put them on their experimental online system that they are still wortking on.
And they said from the start that the PS4 would not be able to play PS3 games, so only those who never checked would have that “problem”, and that´s their own fault too.
And i also have my original PSOne, PS2 and first Gen PS3. All of them still works but the PS3 is starting to make a lot of noise so i changed it with a slim version a couple of years ago.
Is you PS a PSX or PSOne?
i also have a PSX that still works, my cousin’s PSOne passed away many years ago…
I is PS and PSOne. Both no broke.
But that one is not the Classic Edition. You’re not cool!
too soon… also if it requires proprietary memory cards, sony can go f♥♥k themselves
OR… you just make it so the ps5 can play ps1-4 games… just saying.
Made a pile of cash flipping those NES/SNES mini’s.
if they make it so it can also read the games from a flash drive it will be a hit
