Hayao Miyazaki Sheds Tears At Isao Takahata’s Funeral

A memorial service was held in honor of the passing of Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata at the Ghibli Museum, with none other than the legendary Hayao Miyazaki delivering a speech singing his friend’s praises whilst in tears.

The revered director passed away in April at the age of 82 due to lung cancer, a video covering Takahata’s funeral as well as Miyazaki’s tear-soaked speech:

Takahata and Miyazaki initially met at Toei Animation over 5 decades ago, working together on various films and anime such as Lupin III and eventually founding Studio Ghibli in 1985.

Other works Takahata had a hand in include Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.
