Accomplished anime screenwriter Shimada Michiru has left this world after succumbing to an illness, yet another tragic occurrence in the world of anime and naturally prompting fans to wish her a fond farewell.
Screenwriting since the age of 22 in 1981, Shimada Michiru had a hand in creating various beloved animations – a few of the shows she worked on (one of her most recent being Little Witch Academia):
Urusei Yatsura (1981 TV series), Screenplay
Dr. Slump and Arale-chan (1981 TV series), Script
You’re Under Arrest (1996 TV series), Screenplay
Rurouni Kenshin (1996 TV series), Screenplay
One Piece (1999 TV series), Script, Storyboard
Little Witch Academia (2017 TV Series), Screenplay
Shimada Michiru’s daughter took to Twitter to deliver fans the awful news, stating that her mother had been ill since last year and has now passed away at the age of 58:
I am Shimada Michiru’s daughter. I will tell you what happened on behalf of my mother. My mother, Shimada Michiru today on December 15th has passed away, she had been suffering from an illness since last year. She was 58. I humbly thank all of you who loved her various works throughout her 38-year-long career.
too bad
rest in peace
RIP. Thanks for your nice works on Urusei, Dr. Slump, Under Arrest, Kenshin, Witch Academia; & Maison Ikkoku, Future GPX Cyber Formula, Spirit of Wonder, Flanders no Inu, Little Women II, Kindaichi Case Files, Ie Naki Ko Remi, Hamtaro, Gakuen Alice, Shugo Chara. Personally enjoyed all of them.
Also for old Gegege no Kitaro and One Piece, which are still entertaining.
Also for The Snow Queen based on the original, not the one trademarking everything and gave Gerda and Kai shat reality ever after.
Dammit… I’m not even quite over the loss of Matsuki Miyu yet…
So all the money they earned goes to seiyuus who only voiced their characters instead of their own staffs who sacrificed their lives to produce a series. Condolence to her family.
definitely not a good sign. i hope it doesnt discourage others to pursue the same careers.
however what my main concern is that what will this mean for the future for the academia series?
