No Victorique, no L or even Near? What the fuck?! This is the first time I see an anime police or detective top list without one of these 3 characters. There's Light's dad in 12th place.

I'll say it again: what the fuck?!

None of those were part of the police. But yeah, there are quite a few blatant omissions.

Zenigata on top! For a guy who always failed to catch his crook (Lupin).

Dude's a badass detective, it's just a bad skills compatability with Lupin is all. I know none of the rest.

    No Togusa?
    No Ooishi-san?
    No Miyuki and Natsumi?
Doesn't Jet count because of his time with ISSP?
This list is WAY too normie.

Even if they solve crimes, aren't Natsumi and Miyuki technically just traffic officers? I forget if they get promoted later on. (I like the OVAs more than the rest of the YOU'RE UNDER ARREST anime, to be honest, since the OVAs had spectacularly-animated car chases.)

If people aren't as pedantic about the exact definition of "detective", they're probably overlooked since it's been almost a decade since the most recent season of You're Under Arrest aired (and roughly a quarter century since the last chapter of the manga) and it's always been much more of a niche anime/manga franchise in Japan than is Detective Boy Conan or KochiKame.

What about Yakushiji Ryoko from Yakushiji Ryouko no Kaiki Jikenbo or Gotou Kiichi from Patlabor.

The first two I thought of.

What about the great Dick Gumshoe from Ace Attorney?

I never could get how detective Conan got so popular. it's a really stupid and boring anime and manga series.

Yeah, I agree with you. The series got anime almost 1,000 episodes and manga almost 100 volumes. Its interesting a few volume at first, then they keeps milking with the same plot over and over and then its turn into garbage like we see today. I'm not sure why anyone would wasting time on garbage series like this one.

Most people just want to see the same thing over and over again, even if they deny it. It's comforting.

It's why shojo stuff is so relentlessly, repetitively formulaic (five quirky ikemen, pick the setting from a hat, doing the exact same thing for 12-26 episodes). On the guy side it's 'what type of robots are our magical teens piloting at the academy this time?' or what isekai cheat harems are we making.

So older people like the familiar predictability of Sazae-san or Kochikame, Dragonball or Once Piece, and same with Conan. They LIKE that it's the same damn thing every time.
