The Asian Cultural Studies class being held at North Carolina State University began covering Japan’s Yayoi era, the teacher in charge of the class however has made certain to clear up any potential misconceptions (for those not privy to common otaku terms and “hobbies”) by stating that the Yayoi era has nothing to do with “yaoi”.

According to one of the students, the class immediately burst out laughing due to a slide provided by the teacher (perhaps signaling that more are familiar with the concept of “yaoi” than some might be hoped):

The Reddit-goer mentioned that the teacher is known for utilizing unique methods to get his students interested in Japanese culture – on the third day of the class, he apparently showed the students the comedic-style YouTube video explaining Japanese history:

What Japanese thought of the matter:

“Now is the boy’s love period. The yaoi period was likely when stuff like Captain Tsubasa, Saint Seiya, Trooper were around…”

“I’m curious what kind of class it is.”

“Does yaoi really have such fame?”

“Showa≠Shota Like this right?”

“Isn’t he an interesting professor?”

“Yayoi and yaoi. If you forget one letter, it seems you could make a horrible mistake.”

“It’s already an obsolete word in Japan.”

“You damn fujoshi giving birth to the language known as yaoi is a heavy crime.”

anime saturation in the west is reaching critical mass and it's absolutely terrible. It should never have gotten this popular. Early to mid 2000's was perfect.

Popularity is one thing, but it's like Star Wars, what should have just stayed movies became an unhealthy obsession, and now is overly referenced by the media and parents to make themselves feel hip

well from my perspective, it's a matter of comparison between a shunned but tightly knit community of fans versus the congregation of lowest-common denominator casuals who do nothing but make a bad name and unseemly ruckus a la ahegao youtube icons, wearing full on anime get-ups then posting to twitter because they were 'totally just doing it ironically brah'.
nostalgia goggles or not, tell me things weren't better during the age of haruhi suzumiya, shana, and the like.

Speak for yourself fooker. Anime and manga was more pro LGBTQ than any other forms of media even way back 40 or 50 years ago.

So what if some fans are into yaoi or yuri. Don't see you fookers go after any and every shat live actions, but to actively go defend them. But seen you fookers talk shat about any and every types of anime, or call us weeboo fanboys or girls. So what they are into yaoi. I prefer making friends with them before I make any who don't like anime or manga.

They are also a huge part of doujin community, which is the egg mode incubator for many established mangaka and anime artists, and them fookers are even going after the dounin community.

LGBTQ is not a community it is a disease, a mental illness, a plague. Stop trying to legitimize yourselves and with the insane concept that you matter. If you speak louder it does not make your point of view more correct, it only makes it more irritating.

Imagine if Sankaku and a shitty click-bait site like upworthy had a baby.

The headline for the latest dumb ero-anime would be something like

"You won't believe who this gross misogynist fatso got to fuck! 15 PICS!!!"
