The recently released Sonic Mania (a game created by numerous diehard Sonic fans as opposed to Sega who merely churn out soulless Sonic games for profit) has been so highly praised that it is apparently the highest rated Sonic game in 15 years, a feat that some may not regard as all that impressive considering the sheer amount of horrible Sonic games in existence.
Revealed via the official Sonic Twitter account, revered review site Metacritic was used as the basis of this announcement:
Sonic Mania’s OP:
Sonic Mania stands tall at 86, bested only by Sonic Advance with its 87 and Sonic Adventure 2’s 89, not including iOS/3DS re-releases – the fan game’s success will supposedly alter the direction that Sega will take with future titles, hopefully ensuring more good Sonic games instead of notoriously awful ones…
Sonic Mania is available now for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
I want to see a Sonic Adventure 3 personally.
Sonic is finally back! Best sonic since 3 and Knuckles. Can’t wait for Sonic Mania 2!!
9/10
Sonic is a tired idea and I always thought it was a flawed game (no reaction time because of 4:3 screen proportion and sonic being smack in the middle of the screen when running meant you had to memorize the game or go very slowly; HUGE design flaw!!), but hey, many people liked it and that’s ALL that matters. If a return to basics is what it was needed to revivify the franchise, then welcome back, Sonic.
Well, we have widescreen now so what your new excuse?
Lots of people apparently like their games to require memorization instead of skill to beat. Even more people like it if games don’t even require memorization.
memorization is also a kind of skill… not everyone that can master it perfect.
some games are just pure reaction-time based, not everyone that can do that perfect ether.
I hear Fukkireta.
Ditto…the hell.
Goes to show that SEGA destroy whatever they touch. If they had let someone else handle the Sonic franchise before, someone who actually cared about it. Maybe we wouldn’t have gotten Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom.
just goes to show you don’t even realise sonic boom was done by a different company other than Sonic Team.
What about Sonic 06, was that done by other people, too?
As long as there is someone other than the Devs to blame,..
Sonic 2006 has a miserable development story where they basically decided to ship it a year earlier than it was supposed to be shipped. It’s really just an issue of completely incompetent management
