A 63-year-old fisherman viciously attacked by a bear told police that he only survived the grizzly encounter thanks to his karate skills, naturally leaving many skeptical in the process.
The black-belt karate master was fishing in Gunma prefecture when he was beset by the hungry beast in what was described as an unprovoked attack, but instead of running – as some might consider the most intelligent option – the man chose to exercise his expertise in self defense.
Gracefully striking the bear in its eye, the fisherman recounted that he managed to make the foul creature flee, though not without sustaining minor injuries to his arm, leg and head:
Whether this constitutes martial arts prowess or the tall tales fishermen are so known for unfortunately remains subject to question.
Bears can easily outrun you, so running is not gonna help. And dpeneding on the bear, neither does playing dead.
The best option might have been to just fed the bear with the fish.
The real story about this was in the Japanese news papers and stated that the man was attacked and drug around. He managed to save himself by stabbing it in the eye with his finger.
If he hit the nose of the bear I can believe it backed to f♥♥k off, many animals hate it when you hit their nose hard enough.
Was he the guy from Terra Formars?
Possible, but unlikely. At any rate, would probably be safe to run or back away slowly while facing the bear. Best not to engage with bears at all if possible. If he had a fish it probably would’ve been safer just to throw the fish to the bear and skidaddle.
